Woodworking Ideas for People with No Time

By Bill McClintlock

Quick Project: Drawers & Cabinet Doors

A close attention to detail and finesse is required for woodworking cabinets and drawers. These are, however, great ways to take on a weekend project when focusing on a larger one.

Woodworking Project Instructions

Take a look at the link in my profile or search around the internet - you'll find some great ideas for project instructions when making woodworking projects.

Too many times I've seen people start a plan that is more than they need. They often can't finish it, and this is because they've picked a project that is too big. The most important thing in staying in woodworking in the long term is that your projects get finished.

A quality woodworking plan can often be the difference between success and failure when putting together a project. Paying for quality plans can save you lots of money and time in the long run.

Entry Level Projects

The possible lists of little projects is endless. Candle Holders, Birdhouses, bird-feeders, there are lots of ideas to get started with. Remember that Perfection comes from a long term dedication, not from short term spurts. Look for ways to improve over time.

When doing small woodworking projects over a weekend, try to focus on looking for options to improve along the way. Small projects can be a great way to learn how to woodwork, and once you get good at them, you can do a few over a weekend.

Woodworking Specialized Projects

Larger projects can always be completed, but it's important to consider that they can take a while to get done. Look for options that will let you stop for a break along the way, and you'll see the entire project as more in line over time.

Dust Collection

Always remember cleanup time at the end of a project! I'm a big believer in keeping a clean shop, but when you're producing woodworking projects, you can't avoid making a mess. I always make sure that I allocate time to clean up dust and other items even when I'm working on a quick project - it will help make the next project you do that much more pleasant.

Repairing Stripped Screw-hole - Quick Project Idea

When looking for alternate options for woodworking, I always like to look for other tasks like repairing stripped screw-holes. Stripped screw holes can be a major pain, and over time can cause problems with existing projects. By taking the time to repair some as a weekend project, you'll get more life out of the projects you've already created.

A weekend project is a great way to get into woodworking. Take your time and enjoy it, and remember that it's a great feeling to be able to produce quality materials with your own hands!
